French and Music
Music and Band
St. Anthony’s offers a K-6 music program that uses Kodály and Orff methodology to deliver the Alberta music curriculum. Extracurricular choirs are offered at the elementary and junior/senior high levels. The band program starts in grade 6 and continues through grade 12. There is also a Jazz Band that is offered after school for high school credits.
At St. Anthony’s School, French as a Second Language is taught to all K through 6 students. The students receive instruction 3 times a week for approximately 30 minutes totalling about 60 hours of French instruction per year. The program is based on the neurolinguistic approach which emphasizes oral competency and is delivered through a series of themes at different grade levels. In the absence of curriculum for K - 3, the Manitoba Program of Studies is utilized whereas the Alberta Program of studies is used for grades 4 through 6. All students are encouraged to speak French through songs, rhymes and actions. French culture is also explored and the students learn a great deal of Canadian history.
